The vehicle provided under this agreement is rented according to the terms and conditions outlined below, which both the company representative and the customer have read, understood, and accepted.

  1. Driver Requirements: The driver must be over the age of 25 and possess a valid driving license. Only the registered Hirer is insured to drive the vehicle. Any additional drivers must be registered with Islander before driving.
  1. Rental Duration: The rental period is calculated in 24-hour increments, beginning from the time the vehicle is made available to the renter.
  1. Vehicle Condition: The vehicle is provided in good mechanical condition and must be returned in the same state upon the end of the rental period.
  1. Damage or Fault Reporting: The customer must inform Islander Car Rentals of any loss, damage, or faults with the vehicle. Continued use of a damaged or faulty vehicle is at the customer’s own risk.
  1. Insurance Coverage: The standard insurance included is Third-Party Fire and Theft, which covers damages to third parties and their property if you are at fault. It also protects the rental vehicle against fire damage and theft but does not cover accidental damage to the car unless caused by fire or theft. Without comprehensive coverage, the renter is liable for a €350/€500 insurance claim fee, plus repair costs and any loss of earnings during repairs. Opting for a comprehensive package with a deductible is recommended to reduce potential costs.
  1. Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: When comprehensive insurance is purchased, the renter is responsible for the first €350 up to €500 of any claim resulting from an accident or new damage to the rental vehicle. This excess must be pre-authorized on the renter’s credit card for a duration of two weeks to one month. The funds will be automatically released by the customer’s bank, not the car rental company.
  1. Accident Reporting: In the event of an accident, the customer must leave the vehicle in the exact position it came to rest and report the incident. The customer must contact the rental company or the local wardens on +356 21320502. Failure to comply will result in the customer being responsible for any damages and/or all claims.
  2. Penalties and Fines: Any punctures, tickets, or administrative sanctions for violations during the rental period are at the customer’s expense. Punctures can be repaired at most petrol stations or tire services at a minimal cost. Traffic fines or contraventions may be paid at any local council office. If Islander pays traffic fines on your behalf, a €20.00 admin charge will be added on top of the fine amount. Fines carrying penalty points must be paid solely at Islander, with a €20.00 admin charge added for each contravention.
  1. Additional Charges for Negligence: Flat batteries due to the client’s negligence or punctures can be handled by our staff plus a €20.00 administration fee. Damaged tires must be replaced at the client’s expense. Keys locked inside the vehicle incur a €20.00 admin fee. Lost or broken keys must be replaced at the client’s full cost, as these are not covered by insurance.
  1. Controlled Vehicular Access (CVA) Charges: Vehicles entering Valletta incur a CVA charge on an hourly basis. An administration charge of €10.00 will be added on top of the CVA fee. This can be avoided if the vehicle is parked outside Valletta or outside the CVA camera zones.
  1. Delegation of Rights: The customer delegates and subrogates the Hirer in any rights or remedies to enforce such rights and remedies or obtain relief or indemnity from third parties regarding any loss or damage to the vehicle during the rental period.
  1. Customer’s Role: The customer is not an agent, servant, or employee of the Hirer.
  2. Liability for Personal Property: Islander shall not be liable for any loss of, or damage to, property left, stored, or transported in the vehicle by the customer, their assigns, or passengers.
  1. Payment of Charges: All charges outlined overleaf must be paid in advance and upon demand.15. Vehicle Repossession: Islander Car Rentals reserves the right to repossess the vehicle at any time without notice if there is justified cause.
  1. Fuel Policy: The vehicle must be returned with the same level of fuel as when taken or more. Charges apply if this condition is not met. No refunds are given for any surplus fuel.
  1. Authorized Drivers: Only drivers listed on the car rental agreement are insured to drive the vehicle.
  2. Geographic Limits: The vehicle may only be driven on the Maltese Islands—Malta and Gozo. Driving on off-road terrains or Comino is not allowed. Sicily is not allowed.
  1. Cleanliness and Smoking Policy: The vehicle must be returned in a clean state. A cleaning fee will be charged if it is not. Smoking and pets are not allowed inside the vehicle. Penalty fees of up to €100.00 may apply for non compliance.
  1. Late Returns: Additional charges will apply if the vehicle is not returned on the agreed date and time. Rental period extensions are possible at an additional cost if the vehicle is not reserved for another customer.
  1. Delivery Charges: Delivery or collection of the vehicle to/from the renter’s accommodation carries a €15.00 charge each way.
  1. Airport Collections: Airport collections cost €20.00, excluding the airport parking fee.
