ISLANDER RENT A CAR – Terms & Conditions
The vehicle, the subject of this agreement, is being hired under the following terms and conditions which both the
company representative and the customer declare to have read over, approved and accepted.
1. The driver is over the age of 25 years and is in possession of a valid driving license and is fit to drive. Only the Hirer is
insured to drive the vehicle. Additional drivers must be registered with the company before driving.
2. The rental duration is calculated on the basis of indivisible periods of 24 hours, starting from the time the vehicle is
made available.
3. The vehicle is in a good mechanical state and must be returned in the same state and condition on termination of hire.
4. The customer must inform Islander of any loss of, damage to, or fault in the vehicle. Use of the vehicle when damaged
or faulty shall be at customer’s risk.
5. The standard insurance cover for this rental vehicle is that of third party fire and theft. The rental car is covered against
theft or attempted theft or damages as a result of fire. Only if no additional insurance cover is purchased by the renter.
If damage has occurred to the vehicle during your rental; you as the renter are liable for €350 insurance claim fee plus
the full damage costs plus loss of earnings of the vehicle while being repaired. This is unless you are covered by our
comprehensive package. It is best to always rent your vehicle with comprehensive protection with a deductible, so that
you avoid high costs if something goes wrong.
6. In case of an additional purchased comprehensive insurance cover: The customer will be liable for the first: *€350
[three hundred and fifty euros only]. In respect of any event giving rise to a claim caused by an accident, new damages
to the hired vehicle.The insurance excess/deposit must be done solely on the renter’s credit/ debit card and will be on
hold for the period of between two weeks to a month. The customer’s bank will then release the funds automatically
and not the car rental company.
7. In the event of an accident, the customer must leave the vehicle in the exact position that it has come to rest, and must
report the incident to the nearest police station or phone Local wardens on + (356) 21320502. Failure to comply with
these instructions will result in the customer being responsible for any damages and/ or all claims against the Hirer or
customer.
8. Punctures, tickets and subsequent administrative sanctions for violations during the rental period are the renter’s
expense. Punctures can be repaired at most petrol stations and tire services at a minimal cost. Traffic fines or
contraventions may be paid at any local council office. Otherwise Islander will pay traffic fines and contraventions on
your behalf and a €20.00 administration charge will be added on top of the fine amount. Fines carrying penalty points
must be solely paid at Islander and a €20.00 charge is added on each contravention.
9. Flat battery due to client’s negligence or punctures can be changed by our staff at a charge of €20.00 each.Damaged
tires must be changed at full renter’s expense. Keys locked inside the vehicle also carry a €20.00 charge. Lost or broken
keys are to be replaced at full cost by the renter. The insurance does not cover these types of repairs.
10. All vehicles entering Valletta will incur a CVA (Controlled Vehicular Access) charged on hourly basis. Administration
charge costs €10.00 over and above the CVA charge. This can be avoided if your vehicle is parked outside Valletta or the
CVA camera zones.
11. The customer undertakes to delegate to and subrogate the hirer in any rights or remedies for the purpose of enforcing
such rights and remedies or of obtaining relief or indemnity from third parties in respect of any loss or damage to or in
connection with the vehicle in the period covering the duration of the Hire.
12. The customer is not the Agent, Servant or Employee of the Hire.
13. The Company shall not be liable for any loss of, or damage to any property left, stored or transported in the vehicle by
the customer, his assigns and passengers. The company hereby assumes all the risks and waives all claims against the
Hirer.
14. The customer will pay in advance and on demand the charges set out overleaf.
15. Islander may at any time repossess itself of the vehicle without giving notice to the customer provided there is justified
cause.
16. Fuel must return back as it was taken. Charges apply if this action is not fulfilled. The company does not refund the
customer for any fuel surplus.
17. Any driver/s that is not listed on the car rental agreement will not be insured to drive the vehicle.
18. The vehicle must be only driven on the Maltese Islands: Malta and Gozo excluding off road and Comino.
19. Please return the car in a clean state otherwise; the renter must pay a cleaning fee. NO Smoking is permitted inside the
vehicle. Penalty fees up to €100.00 will be charged.
20. Extra charge will be added if vehicle is not returned on the agreed date and time. Rental period extensions are possible
at a cost if the vehicle is not reserved to another customer.
21. Vehicle delivery to/ from the renter’s accommodation carry a €15.00 charge, each way.
22. Airport collections carry a €20.00 charge.

Damages not covered by any of our insurance packages.
Irrespective of the insurance type chosen by the CLIENT, the renter will be liable to ISLANDER, for full
payment of costs (including loss of profit derived from inability to rent the vehicle) for damages caused due
to any of the following circumstances:
• Damages due to accidents caused by a serious breach of traffic law, or the commission of conduct, which
constitutes a crime against road traffic safety.
• Damages caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Damages caused to the rented vehicle due to accidents caused by inappropriate driving or grossly
negligent conduct on the part of the CLIENT or by authorized drivers, as proven in judicial proceedings.
• Damages caused to key copies returned to the renter, for the opening of the vehicle, and to the
upholstery.
• Damages caused due to climatic events, as well as related expenditures derived from the same (except
force majeure events).
• Damage/loss of child seats.
• Damage/loss/theft of keys, jack, wipers, petrol caps, loading shelf or any other fixed or mobile
component(s) of the vehicle.
•Damage to glass, undercarriage, wheels and interior.
• Damage to the engine due to negligence.
• Damages to the engine due to inadequate refueling of the vehicle.
• Theft of the vehicle with the keys still in the ignition/ inside the car.
• Fines for traffic offences or violations of the law during the rental period are the responsibility of the
driver of the vehicle.
